senegalThe number of girls subjected to female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is declining, according to a press release from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNICEF. Still, trends indicate that as many as 30 million girls under the age of 15 in Africa and the Middle East may still be at risk.

Today – the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation – UNFPA and UNICEF are calling for efforts to be accelerated more than ever now, to end this practice once and for all.
